Horse - Loretta Tries A New Dance
Rearing Horse with an Elephant Charm
14cm x 14cm x 7cm
From the Ballad of Backwards and Forwards CollectionThe music had finished and the dancing stopped. It was an abrupt ending. When it started again Loretta wasn’t sure of the rhythm or if she even wanted to continue. But the tiny elephant urged her on. It wasn't the same upbeat tempo as the last tune, but it had its moments and she still managed the occasional twirl on the dancefloor.
The horse is a discarded toy, with a ceramic vase perched on her rear. Her headpiece is a dried lotus head with the pods full of all the thoughts Rula might have whirling round her head. All materials are recycled, collected and found, deconstructed and reassembled to tell a new story and have a refreshed purpose.
They are embellished with collected feathers, textiles, jewellery, dried flower components and beads. I have also dressed them with decoupage, paint and foil leaf. They have vintage Indian textiles and painted claws.
All my pieces are individual and one-off - as I only work with recycled and reclaimed objects I never know what I am going to find. If you are looking for something particular, please ask - and I'll start looking!
